An introduction to what we love in the surroundings.

If you follow Scotts Road all the way down you hit the start of the Stanley River. This is a 10 minute drive and 30 minute walk. This rocky bottomed creek has beautiful clear water and safe swimming holes located on Scotts Road, just before the creek crossing.

The rocks can get a bit uncomfortable so take some thongs or crocs or reef shoes if you have them

On the third Saturday of every month, the local community of Witta puts on a low key, thoroughly relaxed market. It features local produce and a number of artists and artisans. Here you’ll find coffee and something nice to eat for breakfast or morning tea. Take a picnic blanket (there’s one in the cabin) as everyone sits on the lawns surrounding the markets.

Travel to the markets is around 20 minutes and we recommend giving yourself 2 - 3 hours in total.

Mary Cairncross Park is about a 10 minute drive from the cabin and has a fantastic cafe, some low impact walks and a playground for the kids. Pack a picnic in the picnic set provided at the cabin and enjoy the tables and lawns surrounding the playground.

Recommend 2-3 hours if you’re eating for this trip.

Arguably the area’s biggest tourist attraction - Australia Zoo is a fantastic day out with or without kids! It is around a 40 minute drive and plan your whole day around it. Don’t forget togs for the kids as there is a small water park there too!

Recommend planning a whole day for this and if you’re visiting in peak tourist time - get there early to avoid some big lines!

Bird World is private Park that houses an aviary with a fantastic mix of rare birds. The place is under constant development with its gardens expanding all the time.

We would recommend allowing around 2 hours and grabbing a cafe lunch there.

Go to town

There are so many great walks in the area. Our favourites with small kids are the Obi Obi Walk in the Maleny township and Mary Cairncross walk (10 minute drive from Donnington).

The Obi Obi Creek Walk is best early mornings or dusk and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot a platypus or two!

For the older kids, we recommend Kondalilla Falls - this is a lovely scenic walk with a few more climbs. More info HERE.
