The cabin
The envelope of the cabin was built around 1990. Our renovation opened it up with new windows and doors, re-lined the interior in poplar ply and re-clad the exterior in a charred cedar cladding. The idea was simple, use a singular material to minimise waste & trades on site and to create a warm, natural interior that focusses you on the view out and reflection within.

The unique floating bunk beds—secured with solid steel in the walls—add a playful touch to the space, though we recommend the top bunk for children over 9. Guard rails are provided for added safety.
Activities
We have a good mix of fiction and non-fiction books for adults & children alike. Please feel free to read, take it with you or book swap. We also have a small range of board, card, Lego & other classic games to enjoy including outdoor games such as Bocci, Quoits & a 1m high Jenga! We have a small sample of kids toys to keep the little ones entertained as well.
Solar power
The cabin is run off a solar system with battery backup. An auto start generator will kick in once the batteries to get too low. After two days of heavy cloud or rain, the cabin will require the generator. This won’t require you to do anything, BUT, it is possible that you may have a few hours without power in wet conditions. For this reason, we have battery charged LED lighting in the cabin and of course, candles for a more romantic vibe!
Things you can do to ease power usage are:
_reduce water pump usage by minimising flushing
_only use the lights if you need and use the battery LED lights wherever possible
Water
Rainwater is collected in large capacity tanks on site and filtered through a three step UV filter. This means all water outlets in and around the house are safe for drinking water.
While you’re staying with us, please use the body, hair and hand washes provided. These lovely products from Ashley & Co are not only beautiful to use, they are safe for our septic system. Unless we are in a significant drought - we invite you to use the outdoor bath and soak up the views! If you’re staying over cloudy conditions and want to conserve power, be aware running water will draw power via the pump.
Water is delivered via an instantaneous gas hot water system. From time to time the tanks need to be changed - if this happens during your stay please contact us.
